Pet Portrait Painting of Charlie done with Oil Paint by Virginia Artist Emily Farewell

At the beginning of 2024, a friend of mine asked me to paint a portrait of his dog Charlie done with oil. Sadly, Charlie passed away and his owner wanted to immortalize him by having a painting done of him. That is one of of the coolest ways to keep your pet alive in my opinion. Have he/she painted to hang on the wall to say good morning to everyday. So I immediately got to work on his portrait. I am new to oil painting, so I worked slowly to ensure I got his likeness. I made the background a slate blue color to compliment the white and brown that made Charlie, well, Charlie. The painting took me around 10 or so hours to finish and many layers of paint. I have to say that this was one of my favorite paintings to paint. I enjoyed creating a painting for a friend who lost his friend and now can keep him alive in spirit. When I presented the painting to him, he cried, which made my heart feel all sorts of emotions, but mostly joy that I could paint a Pet Portrait of Charlie.
